HSBC’s presence in the region
HSBC’s operation in Qatar was established in 1998, when the market was opened to foreign investors. We were the very first provider of DCC services to the foreign clients in the Qatari market with significant market share of custody assets for foreign investors. HSBC played a key role in the launch of Qatar’s first sharia-compliant exchange traded fund (ETF), which is also one of the lowest cost single-country ETF. HSBC recently worked closely with the Qatar Stock Exchange and other market participants to launch Securities Borrowing and Lending (SBL) in the Qatar market.
